When you look at this dial clone of a Mickey Sharpz machine, and it is a clone of one of his popular machines, you will see the same set-screw, the same tube vice, the same contact points, etc. There are some concerns the buyer needs to be aware of.
The machine says “Iron” on the front post, but just as it says “Mickey Sharpz” on the bottom of the face plate, I have my doubts. My magnet did not stick to the frame, the coils need a yoke, and it lacks the weight of iron frame machines I have of similar size. Parts of the machine were loose out of the box. The front coil had to be tightened down, as did the armature bar and front contact point. The coils are a big concern, as too much movement while shipping can cause the solder point between the coils to break. The packaging was just a small cardboard box with the machine in a plastic bag, so not much to prevent the machine from being damaged in transit.
Once tightened up and adjusted, the machine ran great. At 6.5 volts, I had the machine up to 130 CPS. The coil cores, armature bar, and contact points all appear to actually be iron. My machine numerically is number 10,330, so while they may not be actual Mickey Sharpz the manufacturer is at least creating the illusion of a limited edition device. All the hardware appears to be the same size (a big plus), it has a standard 47uf capacitor, and the plastic washers are the more solid black washers (vs the cheaper white washers that tend to come with machines from China). While I question whether or not the coils are actually 15s, they are at least 12 wraps. The springs appear to be high-end as well.
Bottom line is that if you think you are getting a deal on a Mickey Sharpz machine, you will be disappointed. However, if you want a high quality tattoo machine, this will fit the bill.
